Etta and Randy Endito
have been silversmithing together since 1980. Etta, from Crownpoint and Randy from Smith Lake met in 1978. They have three sons and one daughter. So far, all three sons show interest and talent following in the footsteps of their parents. The Endito family is a true team, all respectful of one another and loving. Etta and Randy both help their mom’s after school. Both mothers were very good silversmiths. Etta has treasured a piece that her mother made years ago. Etta and Randy have tons of respect for their parents. They are grateful for the lessons. Randy’s specialty is the shaping and stamping of the silver. Etta enjoys creating the designs and patterns. They come together in harmony, building a unique piece of jewelry. Etta says, “We are proud to be making jewelry. This is something we still make in America, by Americans. Buy Native American Made!”.

The Pilot Mountain mine is located in western Nevada, east of the small town of Mina.

Pilot Mountain "Saw Rock":
This type of Pilot Mountain turquoise is known as "saw rock" because of the nature of the turquoise deposit. The turquoise was initially deposited in very thin layers between the strata of host rock. Squeezed between these layers for millions of years, this stone is the hardest Pilot Mountain turquoise there is; it's very tight-grained and takes a nice polish. As the Pilot Mountains of Nevada were thrust upward in their creation, the strata of rocks between which this turquiose was deposited were made to stand straight up and diagonally. This is "top of the mountain" rock which is exposed in thin veins layered between the host rock. To liberate this turquoise, the surrounding layers of host rock are sawed away, hence "saw rock." Then a grinder is used to strip away the remaining host rock until the thin layer of vivid blue is exposed. Less and less of this rock is now found because the mountain has been mined for a long time. In essence, this is "stash rock" mined years ago and squirreled away in a vault for well over a decade.

Turquoise
is the ultimate healing stone, providing solace for the spirit and well-being for the body. It is a protective stone and has been used since ancient times. Native Americans call Turquoise the 'Sky Stone' and believe it is both male and female gender. Blue turquoise being male as in 'Father Sky' and green turquoise being female as in 'Mother Earth'. Some properties of Turquoise are spiritual attunement, cleansing, healing, protection, valor, soothing, peace of mind, guidance through the unknown, romantic spontaneity.
